Why His Name?

Have you ever wondered why Jesus’ name is so frequently used to swear, curse, used to emphasize shock or distress? Why? Of all the people who have existed on this earth, of all the prophets or deities from other faiths such Mohammad, Ghandi, Buddha or Moses. Why is it the one name repeatedly uttered in exasperation is Jesus. Christianity isn’t even the main religion anymore.

I know folks who have no use for Christianity, others who are “spiritual”, others who practice another faith, and others who are atheists and they drop the J-bomb more than a professing believer in Christ. Why? If Christ was nothing but a crazy Jewish man who thought He was the son of God, why say His name at all? Why?

I have a theory, and it is because His name has power. It is because His name matters. It is because we are in a spiritual battle and every time His name is used in a way which isn’t honoring God, the enemy celebrates.

I was told once, when praying and in distress, if I cannot think to come up with any words to use to pray, then to say just say Jesus, as His name is power. I heard every time Jesus’ name is praised souls in purgatory are released. Jesus Christ’s name holds power.

Whether you believe in Him or not, every time you say His name whether in praise or in a derogatory way – His name has power. His name isn’t just a word used to swear. If it were, then we might say Mohammad, or Enlightened Buddha, or Moses!

Whether you believe in Jesus or not, you know His history and what He did, what Christians believe to be the truth and the main foundation of their faith. Whether you know it or not, when you say His name you are either lifting Him up or putting Him down.

Some folks will say they despise all organized religions, but the one religion which receives the most hate these days is Christianity. If Christ doesn’t matter to you, then why not just keep His name out of your mouth. If His name means nothing, then why say it at all?

Why say a name or word if it doesn’t matter? If it means nothing? Think about it.
