Something is going on globally, as I have never seen so many blogs and posts about living a more minimalistic lifestyle. Perhaps too many episodes of “Hoarders – Buried Alive” has inspired this new trend, but this is a fad I am really excited about and I am completely onboard with the theory of “less is more” and “quality versus quantity”.
I am in the midst of a move for August 1st, 2015 and nothing brings you closer to the reality of how much stuff you have accrued over the years which is adding no value to your life. It is for all intensive purposes “junk” collecting dust, even if it is a bubble gum pink, leather Coach mini purse you used once in your life, if it is taking up space and you’re not enjoying it, get rid of it!
Here comes the challenge! For thirty days I will get rid of items based on what day it is. For example, Day 1 (today) I will get rid of one item, on day two – two items, however on day 27 – 27 items!!!! Get the picture?! I cannot take credit for this challenging minimizing idea; this belongs to two guys known as “The Minimalists”. You can join in the fun by visiting the below link:

I am feeling fairly confident about this challenge, seeing I have a lot of stuff and I am moving into a smaller space, but I am a bit concerned about hitting the later days of the thirty day challenge. I am also competing with a friend of mine, and the winner will receive a paid for dinner, unless we both win!
I will be posting a picture each day of the item(s) I give away, recycle or throw away (#MinsGame). I’ve decided that the items I decide to sell do not count as I am profiting in a minimal way, which I plan to also put towards debt.
Day one of the Minimalists Game:
Years ago I was very into the nautical look, so I bought a comforter set which included this barrel shaped cushion. I got rid of the comforter, but kept the cushion, and it has been sitting in my closet collecting dust. I am giving it away, as someone may be able to enjoy it, but I don’t need it.
Tomorrow, I will post a picture of the two items I am saying aurevoir to for day two; see you then!
I love watching Hoarders when I need incentive to clean lol. Get’s me right motivated!

I love this idea! I can’t wait to see what you choose to get rid of each day. I’m moving in a couple months as well, so maybe I should follow suit!

I am trying to live with less and live a more simple lifestyle. It is a challenge, but it feels good to get rid of stuff too! You should totally give it a shot, the last days will be tough, but I believe doable!

It is going to be fun until I hit day 15 I think and then it will become a real challenge!

This is amazing xo I was not aware this challenge was happening but I couldn’t be happier! I recently told myself I would stop buying so much crap that I don’t need because as you mentioned I would like to live with a less and more simple lifestyle xo thanks for the inspiration!

came to thank you for liking my post but stayed for the fun and good advice! Utter simplicity is the greatest luxury: as long as it is simple, not plain!

Indeed! Simple not plain! Elegance is the goal. I need to find more time to read the Pope’s encyclical on the environment. I entered Catholic in my search yesterday and stumbled upon you, and sadly many who are against the church. I made the mistake of commenting on some lady who was saying the church needs to drop their rules & sacraments. I used to be a Protestant and only came into the church in 2010; best decision of my life thus far!
